Raw Simplicity

Design Inspiration
The room has an interesting shape, as it is a combination of rectilinear and curvy lines. This contrast also reflects in the room design, where strong and soft elements converse with each other. The concept consists of designing an environment where the decorative element is integral to the material itself; a tile – called “Raw” – with an interesting rugged hewn face, is the main focal element. An organically shaped suspended sculpture provides a very welcome contrast, while other elegant materials – metal, wood, and artisan plaster – offer the ideal complement.

Highlights
Wall tiles by Salvatori, “Raw” collection. Quarries are the inspiration for this tile. We chose it because the decorative element is integral to the material itself. Source: Da Vinci Marble – Champagne Raw Wall Tile & Champagne Limestone Vanity, www.davincimarble.com

Suspended wire sculpture by artist Katherine Hogan. Katherine learned the technique of creating her beautiful sculptures in a workshop led by the daughter of Ruth Asawa, a world-renown sculptor who originated the method of looping wire into forms. Katherine is also an avid gardener, and finds inspiration in the organic shapes, layers, and forms created in nature. Katherine notably strives for imperfection in her work. www.katherineahogan.com
