Castle in the Sky
Design Space #9
‘New Perspectives’ was our inspirational touchstone for this year’s unique virtual Showcase. Our ‘castle in the sky’ guest suite is a dreamy/dreamt bedroom w/some carefully considered built-ins and curated yet comfortable pieces swathed in luxe texture. Rather than optimizing a room for just the weekend guest – we created a special room filled with introspective conceptual art and sculptural furniture to create a calm space to experience everyday.
The three pieces of art – by Julie Mehretu ‘Six Bardos: Last Breath, 2018’, by Chris McCaw ‘Heliograph #132 (Double Day)’, 2017, and by Mel Bochner ‘If The Color Changes…’, 2018 – all explore perspective – mentally, physically, and virtually.
The custom convex mirror (a favorite piece to add in any bedroom ) over the cabinet is also a play on ‘perspective’ – a funhouse way to expand your focal point and include your everything around you as well as look inside your mind at how you see things.
The custom bed and hooded headboard wall assembly was a way to enhance the ceiling heights and yet also create bit of spatial intimacy around an otherwise large shaped shoe box of the room. The handmade mulberry papered ceiling further inspires you to look up for inspiration.
