The Sundown Lounge

Design Inspiration
Imagine a room with such a subtly strong sense of place that it allows you to escape reality. Its heartfelt combination of historical and new furniture prompts the feeling that you have just stepped outside of time. It has rich textures and nuanced colors, which encourage mindfulness of the sensory pleasures in life. Those who enter are invited to play, divert, entertain. It’s a game-room, a cocktail-lounge, a space for reading, listening to music and talking the night away.

Highlights
Chroma has created a curved settee for the Sundown Lounge in collaboration with Kroll Furniture. Featuring modernized, hand-turned acrylic legs, leather channel tufting and custom handwoven fabric, the sofa’s curvaceous form gently embraces its sitters. Referenced from a 1934 historic sofa by Danish design duo, Vilhelm Lauritzen and Jacob Kjær.

Chroma has designed a plaster ceiling informed by the home’s 1926 Spanish-style architecture. Highlighting a unique ceiling pattern inspired from historic Spanish game tables and traditional Spanish tiles, the craftsmen at Color Atelier, using a single color, combined three distinct plaster techniques to allow the pattern to emerge as a contemporary, multi-tonal palette.

Chroma has created a wool area rug in collaboration with Mark Nelson Designs. Featuring loop and cut pile and an inverted ceiling pattern from Gio Ponti’s Villa Planchart, c.1957. The area rug’s tufting is the only signifier of pattern, and the geometric shapes engage a dynamic dialogue with the furnishings.

Paint
The walls, trim, door, and casings are limewashed in an inspired finish by C2 Paint called Esoteric. The ceiling’s custom pattern design uses a single color inspired by the same C2 Paint color. The craftsmen at Color Atelier combined three distinct plaster techniques; typical plaster work, plaster relief and plaster burnishing, to allow the pattern to emerge from the ceiling as though three colors were used. Ceiling mural templating by Pagoda Arts.

Floors
Chroma has created a tonal, wool area rug in collaboration with Mark Nelson Designs. Featuring loop and cut pile and an inverted ceiling pattern from Gio Ponti’s Villa Planchart, c.1957. The area rug’s tufting is the only signifier of the geometric shaped patterns. Dimensions: 20’W x 17’ 4″D, $28,000.
