Lumber Slumber

Design Inspiration
High amid towering treetops, the imaginations of two young boys take flight: This bedroom mimics the magic of childhood tree forts and endless adventure at every turn. A custom-made cabin bed is elevated by stairs that double as book storage; a twin mattress peeks out from wooden slats, evoking the feeling of teetering among the branches of an enchanted forest. A second twin bed is half recessed underneath the built-in platform for a cozy feel.

The wallpaper by Rebel Walls. We felt in love with this modern toile. This inviting, and a little mysterious, forest wallpaper is based on several toile designs. The more we looked at it, the more it reminded us of Maurice Sendak’s illustrations of the jungle in Where the Wild Things Are.

The room is illuminated by a massive scale pendant light by Constance Guisset for Petite Friture that calls to mind the wingspan of a soaring bird.

The two oil on panel paintings by Jeanne Vadeboncoeur, “The Night Max Wore His Wolf Suit” and “Two Paper Boats” that the artist created specifically for the room.
